Do Your Thing AlreadyA Day-Trip to Joshua Tree with Matthew Lloyd Hulett
“Life is too short to push off the things you’ve always wanted to do… I try to live every moment like it’s my last and to do things I’ve been saving for tomorrow, today,” Matthew Lloyd Hulett said.
After moving to LA to study fashion and costume design, Matthew Lloyd Hulett began to explore the seemingly endless number of restaurants, shops and murals around the city. Hulett has no shortage of inspiration, places to be and people to see in LA, but when the warm nights become longer and all-too-concrete, a quick escape to the desert is in order.
Hulett and OtterBox teamed up for a day-trip to Joshua Tree National Park. While escaping the California heat can’t be accomplished in the desert, admiring the beauty of endless Joshua Trees and the desert landscape provides a perfect contrast to the skyscrapers and asphalt that dominate the city. Hulett had seen Joshua Tree featured in movies and online, and it was time to experience it for himself. In partnership with OtterBox, Hulett got the courage and motivation to do his thing and inspire others to go on their own adventure, whatever it might be.
“The beautiful scenery and natural beauty intrigued me the most,” Hulett said. “I’ve always wanted to climb to the top of a rock and enjoy the view.”
Upon arrival, Hulett and a few friends were able to explore the inspirational desert scenery and have a little fun on one of the many hiking trails. Hulett and company finished the day with a climb to the top of a boulder just in time to catch the beautiful sunset.
Empowering people to create their own adventure can be easier said than done when time, money and geography come into play. Hulett’s daytrip to Joshua Tree is a reminder that adventure can live right down the road and doesn’t have to involve a plane ticket halfway across the world. Pack a picnic lunch, grab some friends and hit the road. Added bonus? Find cool spots to stop along the way and host an impromptu photo shoot! Something as simple as sitting on top of a boulder with good friends can create a lifetime of memories.
As for Hulett’s next adventure, he wants to camp out at Joshua Tree and catch a sunrise. His take on doing that thing you’ve always dreamed of is simple:
Life is a gift and it’s important to cherish every moment of it doing what you love.
