How do I Sync my iPAQ to my PC when it is installed inside the Otter case?
In order to synchronize the iPAQ to a PC through the serial pod, you must use a null modem style cable or adapter to connect between the serial pod and a PC. This cable must have a DB9 female connector on both ends (or a DB9 male connector with a gender changer attached). The cable must have the following connections as a minimum: 1 --- 4, 2 --- 3, 3 --- 2, 4 --- 1, 5 --- 5, 7 --- 8, 8 --- 7. Pins 1 and 4 must be connected in order for the Active Sync software to find the iPAQ on the serial port. Pins 2 and 3 must be connected together for data transfer, and pins 7 and 8 are required for handshaking during data transfer. Pin 5 which is the ground signal must be connected through to provide a common voltage reference between the iPAQ and the PC. In addition to these connections, pins 1 and 6 may be connected together at each end of the cable which is common with some null modem cables and adapters.
