Rated 5 out of 5 Great Case This case is a great product it offers great protection and the overall style is good. August 25, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Best product and customer service Hands down, I really love otter box products. It is great quality, and they stand by the warranty. Can't get any better. It is worth the money to protect your electronics. August 24, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Fantastic Product, Fantastic Service We purchased the Defender for my 11 yr old daughter's new iPod Touch. Having paid for many replacement screens on iPads and Phones, I decided to search for a better alternative. She loves it, and enjoyed being able to choose the colours. Both my wife and I have a Defender for our Samsung phones and it is by far the best case available. I recently dropped my phone and it bounced hard on 3 corners on a bitumen surface. NO damage whatsoever, not even a scratch on the case. As far as service goes, I ordered my daughter's Defender on a Sunday and received it on Thursday i.e. 4 days and we live in regional Australia. Lucky to get something from Sydney in 4 days (only 80 miles away)!!! Absolutely brilliant service and product. August 23, 2014
Rated 3 out of 5 by Great case The build of the case is great and very protective. The recent case I received was a replacement for a defective case with a warped frame allowing debris to get underneath the screen protector... The new case I received didn't have this flaw, however... The screen protector isn't flush with the screen, making it extremely difficult to operate my device, I'm mostly happy with the case but unable to use it. I am back to using my original defective case. I wish Otterbox would just send a screen protector separately so I'd have to choice to pop out the built-in screen protector if need be and still be able to use the product fully. August 23, 2014

Camera Covers?

Q:
Is there a thin layer of plastic to protect the front and rear cameras just like the apple logo? Sorry to ask but I can't really tell in the pictures and none of the reviews speak to it.

Hi,
Possibly a bit late answering however for the benefit of others, the answer is that there isn't a plastic layer to protect the front or rear cameras. The construction of the cases means that you would not need it. It would be extremely difficult for the lens to be damaged or scratched (unless deliberate).
Plastic film would also distort the clarity of any photo taken. You are able to access the lens to wipe with a soft cloth to keep them clean.

No, there is no direct protection for the cameras, just the depth of the case. I've never had a camera lens scratch. I suspect they don't want to do anything that'll mess up the optics.

No, the camera and flash are completely exposed, but, the case has high edges so I don't think you'll need to worry about that.

There is no plastic over the lens, but the hard plastic case is thick and raised enough around the lens to give them reasonable protection from scratches.

No protection for the cameras. If there was a plastic layer like there is over the screen or the Apple logo, then it would possibly interfere with picture clarity, focusing ability and possibly render the microphone useless. I think this case is more for shock & scratch protection and water resistance. I have used it with wet hands and in the rain and feel confident that my device was protected. But due to that fact that there is also openings for the speaker and also charging and headphone ports, it is not water-tight.

Yes, but only with Apple's included cable. The opening in the case DOSE restrict you from using it in a docking station. The hole is too thick and narrow. Many after-market charging cables do not fit.

On our docking station, the case does prevent a proper connection and hence the sound does not work. You would need to use an extension cable, or take the case off (not really practical).

No, not really.. I suppose it depends on which docking station you're thinking about. The case is generally too big to fit and/or the depth of the charging port once in the case impede docking.

Most likely, no. Your average docking station is formed to fit the iPod snug so it does not move and damage the device. This case adds size to the iPod.

YES! I searched extensively , read a lot of specs and reviews before I made a choice.
I purchased the '12 SOUTH ' brand "Highrise for iphone". It is very stable , well constructed and is easily adjustable for both depth and thickness of device + case.
You assemble the stand (machine screws and allen wrench included. Very easy)
You custom set the back for the depth of your device in its case.
You are provided 3 different size clips that securely hold the end of your 'lightening' charging cable to the proper height to reach through your case and snug into your device.
You will need to supply your own 'lightening ' cable.
Well made of sturdy aluminum. Securely docks and charges your device , through the case , while looking
quite smart! Highly recommended!

If you mean is it able to go on a docking station with the case on, it's most likely not. The bottom of the case goes over quite a bit and probably won't fit on. Depends on the docking station I think.

It is not waterproof, there are no covers for the cameras and there is an opening for the built in speaker. The defender could not be waterproof and still allow for the full functionality of the iPod.

No, far from it. There are slight openings in the case. The problem with a life proof case is, once your ipod is in the case, you cant exactly take it out without damaging the case.

No belt clip is included for the IPod Touch 5G. There is a wrist strap if you choose to use it. There is a screen protector built into the inner case, but the hard case you are describing only comes with the belt clip. However the built-in otterbox screen protector works great and there is enough silicone around the edges to protect your IPod Touch. Its the only "box" I would use on any device -- and I have three devices that all are protected by otterbox defender series.
