good but.... i love my otterbox for my iphone 5, I have certainly put it through its courses I even dropped it on my eliptical trainer and ran over it and not a dent or scratch! HOWEVER it is not compatible with my square card reader so I can't use it when I need it most! April 29, 2013
Great case with a minor complaint I've used Defender cases on iPhones 3, 4, and now 5. I love them overall. If you want protection and don't care that you're basically completely hiding the phone, these cases are worth consideration. One complaint though. The iPhone 5 case has a smoother texture than previous cases and I'm not sure if this is the cause...but...after having mine now for a few months, the edges of the case have very obvious "grind" marks from putting it in the included belt clip. I never noticed this as an issue with the previous iPhone Defender cases. It kinda irks me because these cases are not cheap. But I guess it is what it is. I'd still recommend the case. I must admit, I was hesitant at first to get the Defender OtterBox for my new iPhone 5. Not because I didn't think it was a good case, but because there are so many other cases that maintain the slim look of the iPhone 5. But my financee highly recommended it so I went with it... I was sitting on the front row of a Brian Regan show (which was stinkin incredible), and I had my iPhone on my lap waiting to take some sweet pics. I then forgot it was there (I know, I'm dumb) and stood up sending my phone not only to the ground, but through the floor 8 feet down to the concrete orchestra pit below - not a scratch. I wouldn't have any other case. Pros -Well build (the case didn't even get a mark on it) -Worry free (I'm confident my phone is protected) Cons -Bulky -Port Flaps (the silence switch and headphone jack can be a little tricky to get to - definitely takes two hands) April 12, 2013
Major Improvements!!!! Wow! Otterbox has finally listened to their customers and it's paying off!! Everything that was wrong with the iPhone 4 cases as far as bulkiness, and port holes in wrong location/not fitting well are gone! These issues have all been fixed, while giving the phone a sleeker design that often doesn't feel like it's in a case. An added design feature is a much more compact and lighter holster/belt clip. My phone, even in the holster weighs much less than my case only for my iPhone 4. My only concerns are the large, exposed openings for the speakers, and the front and rear cameras. However, Otterbox has now designed the Armor series which fixes this problem. Can't wait to get one in my hands to compare between the two. Props to you Otterbox! I have always loved your products! Now they're just that much better! April 5, 2013

The iPhone 5 will absolutely not overheat in any OtterBox case. Every case is built within milimeters to the specific dimensions of the phone to prevent issues such as this from occuring.

As stated in the OtterBox Phone Case FAQ, the Defender Series can be cleaned with mild soap and water, then air dried or dried lightly with a paper towel. Please be careful not to scratch the inside of the protective membrane. The outside of the membrane is scratch resistant, while the inside of the membrane can be scuffed fairly easily. Please take care when cleaning and drying the inside of these screens.

A:
This is mostly a matter of personal preference. Some customers keep a thin, adhesive screen protector on their device's screen underneath the built-in Defender Series screen protector to give the screen extra protection, or to protect the screen when removing the case for routine cleaning. Some customers even apply an adhesive screen protector over the Defender screen protector to try to avoid scratches to the case. Most customers do not notice a loss of functionality or touchscreen responsiveness as long as the adhesive screen protectors are fairly thin.

Q:
so far i have looked in previous questions and all I've been able to find was basically "its a good protector, you won't need to change it", which still does not answer the question: is it removable and replaceable by a new one?
