Rated 5 out of 5 by Aerodynamic Some friends and I went on a long hard hike. Afterwards saying good bye's, we were taking our group photos at the cars. Stupidly, I laid my iPhone 4s face down the the rear roof of my CR-V and forgot it was there. I drove on heavily curvy backroads and in some instances at speeds up to 65 mph..... for 23 miles. Upon arrival at my home, I couldn't find my phone and in a smack on the forehead moment remembered leaving it on the roof of my car, at the hiking site, in sprinkling rain. With the aid or a fast thinking friend and a find your iPhone app, we located the phone! Still operable and sending out a beacon! Upon arrival, I shuddered to look. Laying face up on the side of the road was my fully functioning phone nary a scratch.. Not a ding! It was protected in a OtterBox Commuter case that has already taken it's share of abuse and guess what? The case has 2 small cracks and some scrapes but still fits! I called OtterBox to share this story and the super nice lady further made my experience delightful! A company committed to full customer service! I'm SOLD! I fully believe the rubberized inner membrane kept the phone from sliding off my roof all those miles. If the Commuter does this well, what's the Defender capable of? June 11, 2012
Rated 3 out of 5 by Just an Average Case I guess I expected more from the name Otter Box, but I should have probably purchased a Defender Series case instead of the Commuter Series. This case broke within 5 days of purchasing it, and thankfully was replaced under warranty. It sits in my husband's pants pocket for most of the day so I'm not sure exactly what happened (was not dropped or abused in any way). The replacement case is fine, but I don't think it would protect much against dropping or hard use. Next time I will spend the additional money and buy the Defender series. April 17, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great Customer Service As noted in other reviews, I think this design has a weak point in the hard case between the one button and the flap that covers the charging connection. This snapped for me after only a couple weeks of using the case. Requesting and receiving a replacement was very quick and easy, so I would still recommend this case. It's much smaller than some of the other designs, but it still seems to offer great protection for the device inside. April 16, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by great but the product is great an i would recommend it to anyone it has one little flaw i think an that is that little cover you have to remove when you charge over time it just looks loopy as if it was going to break off. other then that i love it April 16, 2014

The case has an awesome grip, the rubber and plastic clean up nicely, but you won't need to do it, but on a rare occasion. I love that the rubber is not tacky and it doesn't get dirty or have stuff stick to it. Don't know what they used, but it is awesome, stays clean, yet is easy to hold onto. Best case design.

It's a bit tacky, but slick enough to slide easily in and out of pockets. Easy to grip and hang onto.

I find it extremely easy to hold onto. The outside looks slick, but the plastic is slightly textured, making it easier to hold than other kinds of cases that are completely slick. I've never had a problem with it dropping out of my hands because it was too slick.

A:
Mostly slick on the outside, so it can go in pockets. But the inner rubber is open in enough areas that it is easy and comfortable to hold. I have never had it slip out of my hand.

Very comfortable to handle, not to bulky, and the textured finish of the plastic helps provide a firm grasp even when wearing polar fleece gloves.

A:
Its neither actually. It is hard plastic but is textured slightly so its not slippy in your hand. And parts of the inner case show through also which would be not tacky as such, just rubbery - all in all easy to hold and not too bulky

A:
Certainly not tacky; back is textured hard plastic wrapped around a rubber insert which gives good control while holding the phone. I wouldn't call the back slick, but it isn't non-skid, either.

The case for the commuter is neither tacky or slick. It has an easy slide into a pocket but a perfect material for a grip when necessary.

Partially slick with grainy surface and partially tacky (4 spots of the inner case). It is easy to hang onto.

No, it will not. It is slimmer and less bulky, and wieghs less. It will fit nicely in a pocket, unlike the defender. The defender case still rocks for ultimate protection.

The Commuter Series case will NOT fit in the Defender Series holster. The Defender Series is unique since it is the only case we make with a belt clip/holster.
