Good investment I don't regret ever buying an otterbox case. It has provided the best protection ever on my android. The only improvement they may need is to speed up the delivery system more lol. I have a new Ipad 4 and it's been almost a month since I had my wife order it through her company and still no case has arrived due to a "back order" issue. Yet when I check online it is readily available to ship. Quite contradictory to my wait time lol. June 15, 2013
Otterbox is the best I own a lot of Otterbox products. I own iPhone 4S Defender series case (Glacier white), iPhone 5 Defender series (Black)and Commuter series cases (Punk), 2000 series waterproof case (Black), 3000 series waterproof case (Clear), iPad 3 and 4 Reflex series (Vapor) and Defender series (Black and Crevasse), and latching system for the iPad. I also own a Lifeproof case for my iPhone 5 which Otterbox just purchased Lifeproof. I love Otterbox products. I work in a very unforgiving environment and I like to bring my devices with me. I can take devices out of these cases and sell them as new and you wouldn't even question me. The defender series for the iPad is excellent as you can see I own 2 for both my iPads. I have tried many cases but I always go right back to the Otterbox defender series. It can take a beaten and keep on going. I admit I put this thing through the worst possible conditions. I'm going tell you I have had my Black defender almost a year it still works great except the screen protector came loss. No worries Otterbox being the great company they are sent me a brand Defender series case under my warranty. That why I love Otterbox so much. The case is still functional and will protect but they showed how great a company they are and sent me a new one. I'm tell you some of the stuff my case has experienced. I take it with me to the gym to use when I do cardio. This case has fallen from the treadmill landed the belt and flew across the room hit the brick wall and survived. I have dropped this thing a million times survived. I left it with my 7 year old son for weeks and it survived. The ones that you buy today from Otterbox are even better. Otterbox continue to improve on this case. The new I received under warranty May 23, 2013 and the Crevasse one I purchased May 19, 2013 are even better than my original one I purchased. The screen protecter has improved greatly. It is clear and doesn't affect the Retina display. I admit I'm never taking these cases off ever again. I believe it is worth the money. Used to like it even more I purchased the reflex series cover for my iPad 2. Unfortunately, one corner tore. Otterbox graciously sent me a new cover however, it has had a few changes that I do not like. One, it is noticeably heavier. Two, for me to snap the screen cover into a stand, it takes a lot of effort. To unsnap it, it takes tremendous effort. I really liked the old design so much more that I just may put up with a floppy corner. I love that my iPad is well protected. But, I do not like that it is even more bulky to carry around and ridiculously hard to snap into place to use. I am sure it will break soon. May 20, 2013
Unbelieveable Ok, you probably will not believe this, but this really happened. Christmas Day 2012. My son's girlfriend gave him an iPad2 for Christmas. He outfitted it with the Defender series case and we sure are glad he did. She went home to be with her family and he came to our house and then to Grandma's on Christmas Day. We stayed several hours and got back to my house, then he went to his house 30 minutes away. He called and said he could not find his brand new iPad. All kinds of situations played through our heads. Looked everywere, in old wrapping paper, trash, vehicles, the side of the road. He didn't have the heart to tell her he lost the gift she gave him. We all kept hoping it would turn up. The lost ipad feature didn't show it was even turned on. We even put out a reward. Also, thought someone in our family (bad thought), borrowed it without asking. A week and a half went by and it was gone. My husband and I bought him a replacement, so his girlfriend would not be upset. He really is very responsible. A little over two weeks later, one of his students at the school where he teaches called and said he had found it!! He was mowing a lawn not from our house and found it in a ditch!!! The snap cover was off, but the iPad was intact. The student even went back and found the cover. It had rained several times over the week and a half, it went missing. The iPad had small amount of moisture inside the iPad itself. He took it out of the Defender Otterbox and put the iPad in a container of dry rice. The rice would hopefully pull the moisture out of the iPad without any lasting effects. I am VERY HAPPY to say that after 3 weeks in the dry rice, so far, there have been no problems with the iPad. I am thoroughly convinced that without the OTTERBOX DEFENDER CASE, that iPad would not have survived. My son, girlfriend and daughter have iPhones and all are fitted with OTTERBOX DEFENDER CASES. Thank you for a great product. If anyone is considering purchase of the Defender Cases they are well worth the investment. May 19, 2013

The iPad has a internal switch that shuts off the screen when the cover (Apple "Smart Cover") is closed, and turn back on when its opened, will this case do the same thing?

It won't shut it off completely, just the screen backlight which turns back on when you open the lid.

Yes, when the shield stand is clipped over the front of the iPad screen it will automatically activate sleep mode on the iPad in order to conserve battery power.

Need to know with all the defender2 iPad case can protect, dropping, etc does it have the ability to still completely dry function iPad?
Also can you hear out of it with that case, movies, tunes etc?
