The holster for the Defender case can only be used with the Defender case for that device, and is not a universal holster.

I have an old defender case and it covers all the ports but isn't fitting anymore. It works but it's a bit bulky so was thinking the commuter might be better i.e.: less bulky but I definitely need to protect the ports/buttons. It would be very helpful if the photos showed the button and port areas of the cases close up. Thank you

The charger port is covered by a silicone cover and the buttons are covered as well.

The Defender Series Holster is only compatible with the Defender Series case. It is comprised of an inner hard plastic piece with a built in screen protector and a slip cover.

                    Q:
I bought an iPhone 4s rubber case from Otter online and it has an access to the earphone plug but it's completely covered. it seams that it has been reversed because it has access to the phone chip releaser. can you please tell me it that was the way it was built or there was a factory default?

                    Thank you!

Apple moved the earphone jack and the vibrate switch on the 4S over just a bit. Compared to just the 4.

I believe it's because they don't want dust and dirt to get in the earphone hole, so they reverse it to let you know it's there, but you have to open it.

I think it was built that way to keep dirt from getting in the plugin hole. You can always flip it up when you need it?

                    Just my take on it.

It should be there just tucked neatly in place. Just tug it a little. This feature protects the phone's plug when not in use.

Howdy! Well this is my take on your question...I had the same question over 2 years ago...I was trying to plug in my earphone device and I could not get it in, then I thought the same thing you did...obviously it has been reversed! However...after a while I came up with this answer

Just like the Off/On switch, the ringer switch, the charging port...the access is there but yet protecting your phone. I believe it's done that way to keep moisture from getting in...Cause all you have to do is pop up the flap and insert your plug...this answer may be wrong, but makes sense to me ;-)

My guess; the reason that opening is covered is to keep dust&debris at a minimal.

It's a removable flap. This has saved me when the phone is exposed to dust and moisture. It's a port directly to the inside of the phone and should be covered when you are not using your ear piece. This is the same concept of the charging port.

I had the same issue, and when I discussed the location of the ear phone jack outlet with Otterbox, they explained that it wasn't a design flaw. The jack is covered to protect it from dust... and the opening to the side is for that small hole next to the earphone jack. Someone suggested that you could just cut that small rectangular part of the case so that the earphone jack is exposed, and that way you won't wear out the silicone by flipping it back and forth while you use the jack, which for most people is all the time!

Rated 2 out of 5 by Not worth it I am on my 2nd defender series case in the peony pink. Both have cracked at the bottom after just a few months & my shell doesn't fit snug on my phone. I am really disappointed that these cases are so expensive but are made so cheap. May 23, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Child and Adult Proof Extreme My 8 year old son and 11 year old daughter were introduced to an iphone 4 each, encased in a Camo Defender. 6 months later the phones were on-sold (upgrades of course) in a near new condition thanks to the rugged protection of these amazing cases. I have since purchased Defenders for my Lumia 1020, Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy S4. I reckon I have saved $1500 on replacement screens, thanks to the Otterbox. They are bulky, they are big, but I would rather the cut of my suit be compromised than wind up with a phone with a cheese grater for a screen. Oh and the warranty service is second to none, and I live in Australia! May 18, 2015
Rated 1 out of 5 by Phone cracked multiple times when in case Seriously, don't even waste your money. I've had my phone in this case since 2011 and since then, it has cracked three times and the phone is in worse condition since i started using an otterbox. The case is huge and doesn't fit into most pockets. The built-in screen protector makes the phone very unresponsive. If you insist on buying otterbox, do yourself a favour and buy the commuter instead. Very disappointed with the case and will never buy another otterbox. April 28, 2015
Rated 2 out of 5 by Screen shattered with 1 drop I had an otterbox for my phone and it worked great, so I recommended it to my mom. She just dropped her phone with the case ion (she's had the phone for about a month, so the case is new), and the screen shattered. So I had good luck, but she didn't - sad to see inconsistency in a product with a good name! April 10, 2015
