A lot of money for no protection Bought the otterbox about a week ago online. All was well until its first drop of about 3 feet. It landed perfectly on the case front, which in turn did nothing to protect my phones screen from braking... again. I ask that since most phones now a days are becoming more light, and basically just a magic piece of glass. Could you emphasis protection on the screen? Instead of making it the only part of the case with transfer of force from the outside of the case to directly to the screen. June 1, 2013
Disapointed I was extremely dissapointed with otterbox when i first purchased one of there defender series for the s3. This was the first phone that i have owned i wanted to buy an otterbox for and for a first time customer, i was highly dissapointed. The screen protector gets a bad water mark and theres nothing you could do to fix that, large amounts of dust gets under the screen protector. Dust will build up inside there case itself. The rubber outside will start to fall apart after just a few weeks of use. If otterbox does not get there cases better quality i will not be buying another otterbox. Body glove is looking more durable. May 28, 2013
Very good at protecting, cover wears easily. I bought this with my Samsung Galaxy S3 back in late November (so 6 months ago) and it has done a fantastic job of protecting my phone. I have dropped my phone multiple times while this shell was on it and the phone is in perfect condition. The only problems I have had with it is that dust seems to build up on it very easily, especially the screen, and the rubber/silicon outer cover has been wearing out very easily. I barely ever remove it, yet it is peeling away from the case on it's own. And now the cover flap for the Micro USB port has come off. Also the screen cover quickly builds up a lot of dust inside the case and it has a couple of good scratches on it. Better than on my phone, but it seems like it could be a bit tougher for what you pay for it. Overall I am happy with how well it protects my phone, but very disappointed by the durability of it, especially the outer rubber cover. My phone is safe, but the case won't survive the 2 years or so that I will be using this phone. I doubt this case will last more than 8 months to a year. Which is truly disappointing given the cost. Terrible case for what it costs I have had this case for 3 months and nothing fits right and it loses it fit. The silicone cover has stretched so bad that it will not stay on the phone. The hard cover for the phone will not stay locked on the phone and the holster has broke. It lets a tremendous amount of dust under the screen and has to be taken apart constently so you can see the screen good. This case is a waste of money! May 17, 2013

Q:
the Tech Specs indicate the following dimensions:

Dimensions: 5.88 in x 3.47 in x 1.41 in / 148.84 mm x 88.14 mm x 35.81 mm

But 1.41 in HAS TO be with the holster. What about just the case?

Sure, you can take the phone out of the case and slip it into the holster. But it won't stay in place on its own, given that the phone is much smaller than the case and the case is what holds it in place in the holster. Maybe if you duct tape it a bit...

I think you're asking if the bulky rotating clip can be removed from the hard shell holster so that the shell can be used as a protective faceplate. If that's your question, the answer is no*.

*Actually, mine BROKE off when I dropped it, so can be REMOVED easily enough. But it does not detach and then reattach.

The belt clip/holster unit is detachable from the base unit, which is the 'case' that encapsulates the phone.

Q:
I work in a heavy dust environment and i was wondering if the rear camera would be some how protected against dust. Does the rear part of the case a clear plastic cover to keep water and dust out?

is the front camera protected as well? thank you!

It doesn't have a cover directly over it, but it has the case all around it that gives it a quarter of an inch of walling around the lens. It makes for a very small opening for something to actually hit the lens. You really don't have to worry about the lens at all. I have had mine for 6 months and the lens hasn't been touched by anything.

The rear camera lense IS covered, but front camera is totally exposed.
This product is not marketed as waterproof or dustproof -- take a look at the Armor series (though I haven't tried those).
Defender Series for S3 is a DUST MAGNET.

The front and rear camera lenses are not covered by the OtterBox Defender Series case for the Samsung Galaxy S3, allowing photos to be clear and unobscured.

Q:
I am wanting to know if this case has a bar to feed a wrist or neck strap attachment onto it. I'd like the extra security when I am taking a picture or just holding my phone in general.

Thanks for reading.

It does not have that, but it is tough, so unless you are dropping it where you would lose it permanently (i.e. a waterfall, a gorge, a canyon, a river, etc) then you really don't have to worry about it being damaged by a drop. Heck I have accidentally thrown mine on a hard surface (don't ask) and the phone still looks like it is in mint condition.

A:
The screen protector is built into the front part of the case. It is possible, I am sure, to break it out of there, but then you will be losing a lot of value of this case I think. It does a good job of protecting the screen and it doesn't interfere with the image quality.

The screen protector is built-in to the hard plastic inner shell.
I'm sure you could remove it, but I cannot imagine why you would want to.

A:
While it is possible to carefully remove the glued-in screen protector from the Defender Series cases, we do not recommend that, as it directly exposes the device to dirt and debris. Some customers choose to remove the built-in screen protector and use another type, while some customers choose to use an additional screen protector on top of or underneath the built-in screen protector.
