Rated 5 out of 5 by They changed it for the better This case seemed to have gotten an upgrade. The outter rubber is firmer. The hole for the aux jack accommodates varying size cords. Thanks for the quality. Keep it going strong Outter Box. July 19, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Excellent Product Love my Otter Box case. It protected my phone from a couple of drops. Great function with the belt clip. I highly recommend this case to anyone with a galaxy phone they want to protect. July 14, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Motorcycle accident I had my phone in the pocket of my jacket when I put my motorcycle into a ditch at 50 mph. I rolled multiple times sustaining many bumps and bruises. The phone remained in perfect condition. The top part of the case was cracked clear through, but with a bit of superglue and duct tape is back to almost like new. A new case is much cheaper than a new phone. The one issue with the case is the built in screen protector, once scratched there is no way to get a replacement other than to buy a whole new case. This is the main reason that the case cracked in the accident as I had taken the screen protector off due to a few big scratches on it. The protector reinforces the top portion of the case. I work construction and I use mine on my REALLY wide tool belt suspenders. My suspenders are nearly 2 inches wide and it BARELY doesnt fit them. Luckily I am able to bunch the suspenders up slightly to fit the clip.

I wear a 2" double thick belt that is often used by police officers as an under belt. I have to place the clip on while putting my belt on, but believe that you could fit a 1.5" belt easily.

Do not purchase a Otterbox for your because the rubber around the hard shell does not last more then three months tops. I owned the Samsung Galaxy S3 two of them been damage using there case. I have never had this problem with this product. I also own two Galaxy Note 2 haven't any issues with the Otterbox case just the defender case for the S3.

Q:
the Tech Specs indicate the following dimensions:

Dimensions: 5.88 in x 3.47 in x 1.41 in / 148.84 mm x 88.14 mm x 35.81 mm

But 1.41 in HAS TO be with the holster. What about just the case?

The case is not 1.41" deep. More like 3/4". OK ... I get 5.88 x 3.30 x 0.75

Case+holster is 1.51" deep. (not a typo. it's 1.51)

The phone case snaps in and out of the holster. I see no way to detach the ratcheting clip from the holster, if that's the question.

Sure, you can take the phone out of the case and slip it into the holster. But it won't stay in place on its own, given that the phone is much smaller than the case and the case is what holds it in place in the holster. Maybe if you duct tape it a bit...

I think you're asking if the bulky rotating clip can be removed from the hard shell holster so that the shell can be used as a protective faceplate. If that's your question, the answer is no*.

*Actually, mine BROKE off when I dropped it, so can be REMOVED easily enough. But it does not detach and then reattach.

The belt clip/holster unit is detachable from the base unit, which is the 'case' that encapsulates the phone.

A:
The phone is not sealed into the case. It's not water or dust proof.

The back of the case has recesses with cut-outs for the camera, LED and speaker. The front of the phone is covered by a built-in screen protector, however, it has cutouts for the camera, sensors, speaker and home key, just like a regular film screen protector.

It doesn't have a cover directly over it, but it has the case all around it that gives it a quarter of an inch of walling around the lens. It makes for a very small opening for something to actually hit the lens. You really don't have to worry about the lens at all. I have had mine for 6 months and the lens hasn't been touched by anything.

The rear camera lense IS covered, but front camera is totally exposed.
This product is not marketed as waterproof or dustproof -- take a look at the Armor series (though I haven't tried those).

I am wanting to know if this case has a bar to feed a wrist or neck strap attachment onto it. I'd like the extra security when I am taking a picture or just holding my phone in general.

Thanks for reading.

It does not have that, but it is tough, so unless you are dropping it where you would lose it permanently (i.e. a waterfall, a gorge, a canyon, a river, etc) then you really don't have to worry about it being damaged by a drop. Heck I have accidentally thrown mine on a hard surface (don't ask) and the phone still looks like it is in mint condition.
