Rated 1 out of 5 by Sadly Disappointed Let my first say that I work in what can be a demanding environment as a Paramedic, most of the time what I do for a living is mundane but at times I need my equipment to preform exactly as intended. Sadly I can not say the Preserver for the S4 hits this mark. I have only been using the case for three days but I have already had multiple occasions at work where people on the other end of the call were unable to either hear me effectively or the case created some kind of echo effect that made it impossible to relay important information in a clear and concise manor. For me it all comes down to my specific needs. I need to be able to rely on a case to both protect my phone in possibly harsh conditions and I need my phone work properly when the situation demands it. I simply can't spend precious seconds fiddling with my case in order to accomplish what should be the most basic function my phone can preform. If you feel that you would have a few spare moments at the initiation of calls; I have found that popping open the bottom port alleviates most of the echo but is still plagued with inconsistent out going volume. I have been using other Otter Box products on previous phones for years and have nothing but good things to say regarding them. However, I will have to say sorry Otter Box but I will be attempting to return this particular product in the hopes of going back to the Defender series. It should be noted that the case is very well made, feels sturdy and as advertised, quite water proof. I dearly wish it could have passed muster, would have been very nice to be able to use my phone in all weather rescue and trauma situations with a complete lack of fear regarding liquids. Rated 1 out of 5 by Awful I had such high hopes for this case. I wanted a case that would really protect my phone. This does that but no one can hear me and I have trouble hearing on it too. The company was great to deal with and sent me a new case but it has the same problem. April 12, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Solid Protection I purchased the Preserver series for my Galaxy 4. i am new to smart phone but have loved the other Otterboxes I have purchased for Ipods. I am not crazy about the screen over the speaker it is easy to mistake it for the home button if you are grabbing you phone quickly. I wish the colored surface was purple or another darker shade of blue, and that it had a little texture, the hard plastic sometimes slides in my hand if I am trying to type with one hand. My phone is a bit large for my hand and that is issue. I do love the protection because I am not always the most careful person when it comes to my phone. Overall I do like the product and feel it will protect my phone. April 12, 2014
Rated 3 out of 5 by Preserver for galaxy 4 I am on my second preserver and the screen part that protects the ear peice keeps falling off. The buttons are very hard to push in and it is extremely hard to open it..You definitely need a butter knife or something strong and thin to fit in it.. Overall its not worth the money..I truly haven't tested the water out. I have had it in the shower but I have not totally submerged it in water.. I would give it a 5 overall.. April 9, 2014

Yes, it works but it is very hard for others to hear you. YOu must speak into the end of the unit while it is on Speaker.

I have a Qi charging adapter that fits inside the standard S4 back cover and it works fine with the Preserver. I don't think an ovesized battery/back cover will fit in the case.

A:
Yes it does. The only thing I have found wrong with the case is that when you talk to people the call quality on THEIR end is worse. I get reports from people I talk to that say they can hear their own echo and other such things. Call quality on my end has never been better, It just gets old hearing every conversation start with I CANT HEAR YOU, usually though they can it just sounds weird at first.

Yes it does. There is an opening for the proximity sensor for the case to be effective in that aspect.
