Rated 2.8 out of 5 by 204 reviewers.
Rated 4 out of 5 by preserver series case new to otter box products. nice design, passed my water proof test and serveral incidents, but sound opening protective screens all came unglued and fell off. Good customer support and warranty however, replacement sent out at no charge. Still within my first 6 months of this otter box use. October 13, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by OtterBox Preserver Love the protection, nice heavy-duty case. Pushbutton access is very stiff though, not suitable for those with weak finger control. I am hoping that with time and use button controls will become more flexible. October 8, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great protection; hard to remove phone. I LOVE the protection that this gives my S4. I've dropped it, gotten it wet, kicked it, no problems. It's bulkier than a standard case, but when hiking, camping, or being in the outdoors, the case affords tremendous peace of mind. Another advantage is the small tether that comes with the case; very handy for wrapping around your wrist when hiking so that you are less likely to drop your phone. Great feature. But, there is a major problem, at least for me. When I am camping, I generally do not have access to a source to charge my phone. To solve this problem, I pack 3 or 4 spare batteries for my S4. When one battery is almost dead, I simply replace the (almost) dead battery with a fresh battery. I do this about once every day and a half. But the problem with this case is that it is VERY difficult to open the case to remove your phone. Not impossible by any means, but the case was really designed so that once you snap the case together, it stays that way. It is quite tricky to pry apart the 2 halves of the case apart to remove the phone. It's a real nuisance. I'd use the case more often, but the problem of removing the case is a real nuisance. Perhaps the designers could provide a tool that makes opening the case easier. Or maybe they could redesign the case with latches or something that makes it easier to open. So, if you do NOT need to change your battery on a regular basis, this is a great case. But if you are in my situation, then you may want to look at alternatives. October 7, 2014
Rated 2 out of 5 by Protection is Great, Talking on It-not so much. I purchased this otterbox with the waterproof case for the obvious reason-it is waterproof. The design is nice, not too bulky and easy to operate any buttons you may have. I was coaching soccer while it was drizzling fairly heavily and left my phone by the fence and had absolutely no isssues. The water proofing is great! After about a week of use I noticed the little silver "screen" (for lack of better word) on back was fraying and coming undone along the glue line. It is possible that I caught it on something, but I am not sure. The biggest downside, and why I am considering returning it, is anytime I would answer a call they could not hear me. Said it was like I was talking inside of a box and muffled. It did not matter if I was talking with it on speaker or holding it next to my head. If you are just needing a waterproof case and do not make phone calls, this is the case for you. For those who actually talk on their phone without bluetooth, I would go with a different type of otterbox. October 2, 2014

Unless you will be using your phone around water or snow everyday, I would go with the Defender. The Preserver is not made to talk on and frankly the waterproof system fails after less than 6 months.

I have the preserver cover for my regular s4 and am very disappointed. The sound quality gets so bad sometimes that I have had to hang up, remove the cover and call people back.

I have a Qi charging adapter that fits inside the standard S4 back cover and it works fine with the Preserver. I don't think an ovesized battery/back cover will fit in the case.

No this does not work with the proximity sensor. As soon as you make a call, the screen goes blank. It only turns back when the call is terminated.

Yes it does. The only thing I have found wrong with the case is that when you talk to people the call quality on THEIR end is worse. I get reports from people I talk to that say they can hear their own echo and other such things. Call quality on my end has never been better, It just gets old hearing every conversation start with I CANT HEAR YOU, usually though they can it just sounds weird at first.
