Rated 3.6 out of 5 by 73 reviewers.
Rated 3 out of 5 by Non Functional Holster The case is sturdy and protects the phone from impact and falls. The holster is clunky, bad design and does not hold the phone in position. The phone fell out of the holster 5 times in the first day. The phone survived the falls only because of the well designed case. I can recommend the case but the holster is not holding the phone in place and you will trop and loose the phone. July 25, 2014

Rated 2 out of 5 by Poor Design I have now gone through 3 otterbox cases, the case itself is great. I have had otterboxes for all of my phones. This one just misses the mark. The case fits snug. The rubber casing is much better than those int he past for the Samsung or other phones i have had. HERE IS THE FLAW, the plastic top shield is not designed right and sits with with bubble up effect. So all the dust, dirt and debris go into the slot where the ear piece is and collects inside, making your screen almost impossible to see and use. You have to keep opening it up and that defeats the point. Due to the "bubble effect" the touch part of the screen is really odd. It doesnt allow smooth flow for typing and will jump screens or applications because it doesnt allow for pin point touch more of a broad stroke. I am going to have to end up buying something else which is unfortunate since i think otterbox is the best on the market. July 16, 2014

Q:
After reading reviews about the screen protector making the phone difficult to use due to an air-gap in the fitment, my question is whether that built-in screen protector could easily be removed from the case and if I could just apply my own stand-alone screen protector from another manufacturer?

A:
no, any aftermarket screen protector you get will not fit under the inner plastic case. it will allow dust or debris to get in and potentially scratch up your phone.

Very easy to remove. Just separate the case, hold the front part, and push on the protector at one of the edges. It is held in place by a thin strip of double sided tape. Once you have it separated, just work your way around the cover until the whole thing is out.

I haven't tried it but I thought about it. However I haven't had that much trouble with it just some cleaning every 2 or so weeks; takes less than 2 minutes.

However upon inspection of the case, it seems the cover is just glued in on the insides of the case and with a small amount of pressure you could easily remove it. Clean up the left over residue and use your own screen protector.

The screen protecter can be removed without much problem, but then you are left with an edge that will catch dust and dirt.

Well once You punch it out the product is broken in my opinion there's no way I'm getting mine back on so I got a stick on protector but it's not the same. Doesn't feel as secure.

A:
Yes and no. Yes, you can remove it via an exacto knife/razor and a steady hand. However, it's not a removable screen protector by design so you'll have some modifying to do on your own.
