Rated 4 out of 5 by Great case/poor holster Case and cover are well made and protect well. The holster is the weak component. The holster is prone to break at the swivel point. I'he had the holster replaced twice. However, GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE. Wish the item was made in the USA. August 14, 2014
Rated 3 out of 5 by Decent Case, but some issues The case is good. The only problem I have is how it fits with the holster. I had an Otterbox for an Iphone 4, and with that, you could clip or unclip the phone without having to look at it. With this one, I need to look at it each time I take the phone in or out of the holster, otherwise it will fall out when I'm walking. It also doesn't clip in all that easily, and sometimes will feel like it's secured when really it isn't. August 14, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Love this product This is my second Otter box. i hope to never use a different brand. It is durable and looks nice. The phone gets dropped regularly and both cases from Otterbox have kept my phones well protected. i also like it that i don't have to push the buttons hard to get them to respond. August 11, 2014

How to put on the cases

Q:
We have just received our Otterbox Defender cover for our Samsung Galaxy 4 mini, and have had to remove the back of the phone for the case to fit. Never had to do that with any other phones or cases. Is this normal with these phones and cases?

Q:
There is a noticeable bowing outward on the screen protector "film" of about 1/16in that makes it nearly impossible to accurately swipe. Is this normal? If so, is there anyway to compensate for the lack of swipe capability? I've heard great things about Otter cases and am a little disappointed if this is indeed the "norm." Thanks!

I had the same problem when I first got my case. After having it for a few weeks now, I've broken the case in, and that bowing isn't really there any more. If you continue to text (or whatever else) the way you want to be able to, you will break the case in to your own personalized needs. Also, I've found keeping my nails short makes texting using the swipe method easiest. For now, if you just press harder when you do it, everything should work out=)

A:
its the integrated screen protector. Try the Commuter version which comes with a stick on film instead of the hard plastic screen cover (works perfectly). The Commuter case is also smaller, which for me is the reason I chose the S4 mini.

A:
This is normal and you may need to take the clear cover off the case and use a stick on protector.

Howdy Chris! I think you may have a dud, sorry to say. I've had my case about a month, and haven't had any trouble swiping, or noticed a bulging of the screen protector. Manufacturing error? I'd email Otter box and ask them to replace it. Hope this helped, cheers!

I'm not sure, ChrisS, but you might have the same problem that my wife encountered when she first put her S4 Mini into the Defender case. She, too, complained that the Defender's screen protector was bowing and/or that there was a "gap" between the protector and the Mini's touchscreen. I hadn't had any such problem, so I tried my hand at remounting her Mini in the Defender. What we discovered is that she wasn't getting the side latching points on the Defender completely closed. The rubbery outer case will slip cleanly over the inner hard skeleton case even if it isn't closed tightly. Therefore, you might try this: remount your S4 mini in the hard inner skeleton case by sliding the case's front and back together at the TOP first, then seating it with a firm squeeze at the BOTTOM, and then simultaneously giving the RIGHT AND LEFT EDGES of the case a very hard squeeze. You should feel the Defender's hard case snap/lock into a nice, gapless/bowless fit around the S4 Mini. If you don't, then turn the phone-and-case face down on a hard surface and (using your thumbs) put a good bit of pressure on the right and left edges (where the latching points are) until it snaps/locks together. Then, slip on the grippy/rubbery outer case and enjoy your new phone! This has worked for both of us with our S4 Mini-and-OtterBox-Defender combos. I hope it works for you!
